Dawn Silva Vocalist, Songwriter & Producer hails from Sacramento California and began her career as a background singer for Sly & the Family Stone. She has toured and recorded with artists such as Roy Ayers, Coolio, Ice Cube, The Gap Band, Eurthymic’s Dave Stewart, B.B. King and others. Jeanette Washington Perkins Vocalist, Songwriter & Producer was born in Cleveland Ohio and started her career as one of the first females to sing and tour with Parliament Funkadelic. These charismatic performers stood together on center stage with P/Funk and earned Platinum and Gold records for singing on hit records such as, Knee Deep, Flashlight, Tear The Roof Off, Make My Funk, Atomic Dogg, One Nation Under A Group, Aqua Boogie and more… Recognizing the talents of Dawn Silva and Lynn Mabry Atlantic Records signed the duo to a seven year contract, and they would become known throughout the industry as the bigamous Brides of Dr. Funkenstein. In a genre of music dominated by males, the Brides were more than an off shoot group; they were critically acclaimed artists with record sales, awards and standing ovations before sellout crowds to prove it. The Brides debut album “Funk or Walk” sold over 500,000 units and climbed to the # 7 slot of the R&B Billboard charts. The funky fem/duet was voted by Record World in 1978 as Top New R&B Group; and earning an R&B Award as Best New Female Group in 1979. The Brides eased into the Rock/Funk genre with their sophomore album release, “Never Buy Texas from a Cowboy” The album became an instant classic with its hip concept (Mother Wit meets funk) and high-octane vocals. Rolling Stone Magazine in 2001, named it as one of the 50 Coolest Albums of All Times. The Brides of Funkenstein were on the list with the likes of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and others. With the dawning of a new millennium Silva began stockpiling songs for her debut CD and the results; a stunning slab of infectious grooves (AMG Amy Hassan) entitled (All My Funky Friends), was officially released in January of 2001. “Body Shaking!” (Billboard Magazine) “Dawn Silva is perhaps the greatest of all George Clinton’s creations and still a funky diva to listen too!” (Goldmine Magazine) “One of the most understated albums to hit the market, and possibly the only authentic contemporary funk album of the decade.” (Tower Records) Dawn sold her first fifty thousand units via the Internet and was the talk of newsgroups and websites all over the world; bringing her product to the attention of an independent label in Paris France called Musisoft. The French label licensed All My Funky Friends, selling over 15,000 units in Paris. Silva then signed with Challenge Records of Holland. The single release “Red Light District” went into heavy rotation in the Benelux and Germany earning rave reviews. The recording industry was caught off guard by her success - with Billboard Magazine, breaking a rigid tradition by running a feature article on Dawn Silva. According to Billboard Magazine’s, (Gail Mitchell) Silva’s album, (body shaking) broke the code of Omerta; an independent release without a major label achieves main stream coverage. All My Funky Friends became the talk of the internet – www.amazon.com earning Silva five star reviews; license deals in both Europe and North America, and headline performances in Canada, Europe, the U.S., including a headline spot at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag Holland. Record executives may not believe in what she’s doing but clearly thousands of funk-starved fans worldwide do. From the five thousand in attendance at Caesar Chavez Memorial Park in Sacramento California in August of 2001, to the twenty thousand in attendance at The Long Beach Funk Festival in August of 2009, to the eighty thousand fans at the prestigious Woodstock Festival October 2009 in San Francisco, and back by popular demand to headline The Long Beach Funk Festival in August 2010; Brides of Funkenstein original (Vocalist); Dawn Silva - (P-Funk Guitarist); Dewayne Blackbird McKnight, (P-Funk Bassist); Jeff Cherokee Bunn, (Drummer/P-Funk Brides) Barry Chenault (Vocalist); P/Funk-Parlet original member Jeanette Washington Perkins; Keyboardists Joel Razor Sharp Johnson (Booty’s Rubber Band) Rhythm Guitarist Gail Muldrow (Graham Central Station) and (Saxophone); P/Funk Alumni - Greg Thomas. Twenty thousand funk soldiers, witnessed for the first time in years an authentic sizzling Brides of Funkenstein/Parlet performance that was written to be fiery, magical, fun and seriously funky. Ladies and Gentlemen - The Mother ship Connection is here!
