With lead singer Max C, Gap Experience appeals to old and new followers by staying true to the heart of their music classics and infusing contemporary production and styling that produces a sound and live performance show that is undeniably electric. Gap Experience will be bringing the funk to a city near you. OLIVER SCOTT -- Musical Director Oliver’s musical talents and influence were introduced to The Gap Band in May of 1979. His three and one-half years with the band saw him pen the R&B classic "Yearning For Your Love" as well as many other "album cuts" for the group while also assuming the role of The Gap Band Musical Director. Oliver is also privileged to have the performance of his song from The Gap Band V album "Where Are We Going" nominated for a GRAMMY AWARD in 1984 in the category "Best R&B Instrumental Performance". Oliver Scott is truly one of the music industry’s best-kept secrets. Born in Waco, TX October 10, 1954 his musical talent was nurtured in the small Pentecostal church he grew up in. As a young man his talents blossomed along with his desire to write songs. As a teen he began performing numerous nightclub dates regionally. Leaving home with only a childhood dream, Oliver's pursuit of music as a profession became his all consuming passion. In 1977 he and his brothers formed the band “Bloodline” while living in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Los Angeles. Upon leaving The Gap Band he not only earned opportunities to contribute to significant recording projects by several other popular R&B artists, as a songwriter and producer, (e.g. "Billy Paul"/Total Experience, "Yarbrough a & Peoples" / Total Experience, “Switch”/Total Experience) but, in 1986, he dedicated his life and his music to his Christian faith. He has since produced and written five solo Gospel projects, three gospel albums with the church he served and has written and produced and shared the stage with many other Gospel artists. He now serves as Pastor of Worship at Sienna Ranch Baptist Church, Missouri City, TX. Now, Oliver, with other Gap Experience members, has been involved in helping to organize Gap Experience. Gap Experience has reunited members of The Gap Band and, under his musical leadership once again, produces the “sound” that cannot be duplicated or recreated by anyone else. Jimi Macon Jimi Macon is an original Gap Band member. Jimi’s talents have been a part of The Gap Band since the beginning when he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1974 to join the group. Shortly thereafter, the band moved to California to connect with the record companies and secure a record deal. Jimi was there as part of this journey as The Gap Band secured recording contracts with A&M records and Tattoo Records, a subsidiary of RCA. In 1977, The Gap Band released their first album "Out of the Blue", which featured the whole band (including Jimi) on the album cover. Jimi has recorded on each and every one of The GAP Band albums produced. Jimi’s credits include Gap Band V: Jammin’ (1983), The Gap Band 8 (1987) and Straight from the Heart (1988). You will also recognize Jimi from his appearances with the band on world-wide stages and on numerous television shows and specials, such as American Bandstand, Soul Train, and The American Music Awards. Guitarist Jimi Macon originally hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. Jimi is widely recognized for his talents during his forty years of performing. In addition to his work with The Gap Band, he has worked with a virtual who’s who in the world of R&B, including James Brown, Natalie Cole, Lou Rawls, Rufus, Bobby Womack, Solomon Burke, Isley Brothers, Sly Stone, Temptations, CeCe Winans, Johnny Taylor and Kool & the Gang. Raymond James Calhoun Drummer, producer, songwriter Raymond James Calhoun joined The Gap Band in 1979 after a two years with The Manhattan’s and one year with Peaches and Herb. For the last 33 years Raymond has contributed his on-stage presence to Gap Band performances world-wide. Raymond, as a prolific songwriter for The Gap Band, wrote Outstanding, All of My Love, I Found My Baby, Sweeter Than Candy, You Told Me That & more. Two of the band’s album’s on which Raymond is credited, The Gap Band III and Gap Band IV, achieved platinum status. Raymond’s composition “Outstanding” originally appeared on the group's platinum-selling 1982 album Gap Band IV. It is one of The Gap Band’s signature songs and biggest hits reaching the number one spot on the U.S. R&B Singles Chart in February 1983. "Outstanding" peaked at number fifty-one on the Billboard Hot100. To Raymond’s credit as the songwriter, Outstanding remains one of the most sampled songs in hip-hop history and has been used by over 150 artists ranging from Madonna to Kyle Minogue, Usher, R. Kelly, Backstreet, Soul for Real and Tina Turner, Snoop Dog, Puff Daddy, Nas, Spice Girls, All Saints, Dr. Dre, George Michael, Christina Aguilera and Bob the Builder and others. Most recently, The Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson used “Outstanding” at a political fundraiser. Raymond’s music with lyrics adapted for the occasion. Raymond has also performed or shared the stage with The Dazz Band, Roy Ayers, Stephanie Mills, James Ingram, Yarborough & Peoples, Michael Bivens, The Spinners, Sunfire (group member), Taste Of Honey, Anita Baker, Glen Jone, EnVogue, Karyn White, Christopher Williams, Miki Howard, Troop, Pamela “The Saxtress” Williams, Masumi (Japan), Miki Asakura (Japan) and Marine (Japan). Most recently Raymond has toured and worked with his close friend Tito Jackson of the legendary Jackson 5. Terry Scott Guitarist/pianist/vocalist Terry Scott is yet another member of The Gap Band that has been featured for his dynamic guitar contributions. Terry’s guitar skills are so overwhelming that his vocal and other musical skills and contributions are often overlooked. Joining The Gap Band in 1992, Terry has appeared with The Gap Band on their world-wide tours and his work includes credits on some of the more recent The Gap Band albums. Terry has also enjoyed success as a solo artist, from the 80’s self-titled LP Terry Scott on Electra Asylum Records, through today. His current contemporary jazz single Nirvana is available on iTunes and CD Baby. In addition to working as a touring musician with The Gap Band, Terry also appeared with Eddie Hazel from Parliament Funkadelic, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Wilson Pickett, New Birth, Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards (The Temptations) and The Isley Brothers. Terry also played bass with Jamie Bernstein at the Kennedy Center in a show honoring her father, composer Leonard Bernstein. Billy Young Keyboardist Billy Young’s career includes 22 years with the original Gap Band that started in 1981. Billy’s talents and contributions to the Gap Band sound can be heard on Gap Band IV, Gap Band V, Gap Band VI, Gap Band VII, Gap Band VIII, Gap Band – Straight from the Heart, Gap Band – Live from Atlanta, and also such recordings as Round Trip, Live & Well and Y2K Funkin Till 2000 Come. Billy also lent his talents to Billy and Baby Gap – the only spin off group from The Gap Band and produced by Charlie Wilson. He has worked with other artists on the Gap Band’s label Total Experience, including Yarbrough & Peoples, Penny Ford and Will King. Billy has recorded with Stevie Wonder, Eddie Murphy, Ramsey Lewis, Earth, Wind & Fire, Pebbles, Boz Skaggs and Snoop Dog. Records with Eddie Murphy, Earth Wind and Fire, Pebbles and Ramsey Lewis have gone platinum. In addition to Billy’s tours with The Gap Band, he has toured with Bobby Womack, Phil Perry, Tony Terry, Howard Hewitt, Glen Jones, The United We Funk Allstars, SOS Band, Con Funkshon, The Dazz Band and The Bar Kays. Roman Johnson Writer, producer, arranger and keyboardist Roman Johnson’s talents run though decades of The Gap Band presence and sound. His talents and influences are part of the original sound that continued to evolve while Roman served as the Musical Director for The Gap Band. Roman started with the band in 1984 and began to play and write for the band shortly after joining the group. Roman can be heard on the Album titled Straight from the Heart where he co-wrote the song “Sweeter than Candy”. The album also included the single "Straight From The Heart". "Sweeter Than Candy" was featured in the film Penitentiary 3. The Round Trip Album (1989) on Capital Records, was probably the most solid and consistent Gap Band album since their now-classic 1982 effort "IV". Round Trip found the band back in a stronger, catchier groove than they previously had to that point. Since the album is from 1989, some of the raw, gritty funk that the group was well-known for in the 70s is understandably put aside in favor of a more polished sound (with obvious nods toward new-jack swing). This album is still some of the freshest-sounding Gap Band music of the decade. On Round Trip is a serene, sublime ballad called "Wednesday Lover" …. one of the greatest songs ever created by The Gap Band. As always, Charlie Wilson is at his best (quotes from Roll Stone Magazine) on The Funkin till 2000 Comes Album, The Alive and Well Live Album and Best of Gap Band Vol 2… on all of which Roman is credited. Roman has also been Musical Director for The Isley Brothers, En Vogue, Toni Braxton and Babyface, New Edition. His credits as a writer, producer and arranger include Impromp2, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, Deborah Cox, Steely Johnson, Death Row Records and Sekou Bunch. Roman currently tours with Stevie Wonder and has toured or shared the stage with, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, B.B. King, Sting, Prince, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson, Gospel artist Donnie McClurkin, B.B. King, Natalie Cole and the late Teena Marie. Roman also performed for the Queens 60th jubilee and for two presidential inaugurations. Max’C In a world already filled with remarkable vocalists, Charles E. Salter (aka) Max'C is truly in a class of his own. Originally hailing from Louisville, "Dirty South" Kentucky USA, Max is a Multi-Talented Singer/Songwriter/Actor/Entertainer, who has spent a majority of the last decades working and performing in Europe. With his smooth four octave tenor vocal range, and a sound very close to R&B Legend and Gap Band founder, Charlie Wilson, Max will definitely make you sit up and pay attention. Based in Helsinki, Finland for many years, Max became one of the most sought after voices in the EDM, House & Soul music arena. Max has worked with the greats like Swedish House God Father, StoneBridge (“I Believe”), Axwell (“I Found U”), David Guetta (“Where Is The Love”), R3hab (“Sending My Love”), Fedde Le Grand (“Feel The Love”), and opened concerts in Europe for Whitney Houston, Joss Stone ,Snoop ,Diddy ,Shaggy and Macy Gray. Max is now set to hit the next level in his career. Having secured the spot as the lead singer of Gap Experience, Max is set to make his mark and bring back "The Funk" to the music industry world-wide!
